The problem with your #list find issue is that there are \ characters embedded in the string.

If the strings differ because of embedded backslashes, why don't trailing spaces lead to the same error ...

Not planning to add error checking.

So a poor command or a typo could lead to the client crashing while someone's in the middle of combat on a mud? That sounds like bad program behavior.

It's a known problem, and there's no real way to fix it.

Sure there is- create a command similar to #showme that doesn't output a linefeed.
