Can anyone explain VTGraphics?

It's been a couple years since I've used the mapper, it looks like there are TON of improvements - but I'm not seeing much documentation on them.

With asciigraphics enabled, the map makes sense:



However with vgraphics on I have no idea what I'm looking at:
I assume I'm the red X - here it looks like I'm in the right place:


However, I move one south and the map changes and now it shows my red x way over to the left:


Can anyone explain how vtgraphics works? Do people actually use this mode? If so, why use it over asciigraphics?

The mode doesn't work well with most terminals. It's not very useful.

RTFM my friend! It all goes back to the DEC VT100 terminal which was more advanced than it's predecessor the VT52 - anyhow - this used some characters with codes with the MSB set. And for reference you might like to refer to the manual (25MB PDF) here, page A-12, i.e. 304 (of 348) is the one you want... Cool
