How do you like the idea of having an IRC channel for tintin++ ?
I would greatly enjoy that!

Greetings,
Eraldo

I don't use IRC so I'd be impartial to it.

Tintin has a build in chat protocol, so one option is to run a tintin chat server using the chat server script:

http://tintin.sourceforge.net/scripts/chatserver.php

As a side note, I ran a tintin chat server two years ago but there was no interest for it. Things might have changed though.

Sounds like a great alternative!
You can count on my presence once it's up and running Smile
Please also update this post once that is an option!
Can I help you in any way with that project?

Greetings from Austria,
Eraldo

Alright, I went ahead and set it up.

Basic instructions:

Code:

#chat init 4050;
#chat name <your name>;
#chat call slackhalla.org 6969;
#chat message tintin help

I'll probably won't be checking in a whole lot myself though.

I realize this is very old. Smile
I tried to connect today, but got errors:

Quote:
<CHAT> Attempting to call {slackhalla.org} {6969} ...
<CHAT> Socket connected, negotiating protocol...
<CHAT> Unterminated command: 255
<CHAT> Closing connection to 84.245.49.228 D3

Is it still up?

Awe, too bad.
In case anyone else is interested - I'm idling on freenode in #tintin.

BTW I'm working on a different Mud client - no names as I still have fond feelings for TinTin++ - and one of my goals is to include MMCP (Mud Master Chat Protocol) support into that client.

One issue I think might still be in in the TinTin++ code is that unlike other parts of the codebase it is IPv4 only, no IPv6 support - now I'll be honest and say that I want to use (as per GPL) the code in TinTin++ as a reference platform.

I've been and got - and anyone else who wants to can get - an IPv6 tunnel set up for testing purposes (my ISP doesn't do IPv6) from the very useful SixXS IPv6 tunnel broker guys; the machine on my home network that is the end-point is only powered-up part time at present and I don't have a subnet sorted yet so only one static address would be visible to the outside world at present and I'm not running any outside servers on it yet - or I blooming well hope so...

At some stage in the future when I've got somewhere I would love to test the interoperability between the two clients in the wild so if anyone else will be running a MMCP peer then I'd be interested...

I have used #CHAT on my LAN to run a second slave instance of TinTIn++ on another machine so I could use that as a full-screen map display which was an interesting experiment! The default port of 4050 that MMCP uses is used for a different well known service according to some internet research I did - but speaking personally I see that 4048 would do just as well...
