It seems pretty obvious that the mapper needs some kind of alias feature for rooms. Currently, I have to change the room name to be the alias, if I want to get around fast, ie:

#map go cyberpope

Would take me to the room I've named 'cyberpope', but the actual name of this room is 'A room (u,s)'.

Aliases would allow us to set custom names to get around as we see fit, without changing the actual content of what the mud has in place for the room name.

Smile

You can use the vnum of the room as an alternative as well.

Not sure if I want to add alias support at this time.

Heh, but who wants to remember vnums? I play a mud with 40,000+ rooms.

If I opened the code and implemented such a feature, would you put it in the main repository?

It's easy enough to add. My main concern is feature bloat.

You could just store aliases in a variable, since variables essentially function closer to string maps than arrays.

Eg. #var {room_aliases[$ALIAS]} {$VNUM}

When you want to accept either alias or vnum, you could even do something like:

Code:
#var {vnum} {%1};
#if {&{room_alias[%1]} > 0} {
  #var {vnum} {$room_alias[%1]};
};

About 20000 characters. Maximum number of items is somewhat variable. It's something I might fix one day.
